Steve Barrett

Steve started his EHS journey when he attended Oregon State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and became one of the first students to enroll in the safety management master’s program. He is also a 9-year US Army veteran. Steve has worked in several industries, including manufacturing, trucking, and primarily construction. Steve has also worked for a time as a truck driver and heavy-equipment operator. He has held positions such as safety manager in general contracting and with smaller trade partners.

Steve spent 7 years with Oregon OSHA as a senior compliance officer and staff consultant. During his time there, he was assigned numerous accident and fatality investigations and collaborated with the largest companies in the area. Steve holds certifications including CSP, OHST, and CHST from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. In 2022, he was honored with the OHST Award of Excellence by the BCSP for his work in Health and Safety.

Additionally, Steve has been actively involved in professional organizations. He served as treasurer on the steering team and currently holds the position of chairman for the Construction Safety Summit, a non-profit organization formed by industry professionals to host speakers and facilitate networking on various safety topics, similar to ASSP.

Currently, Steve works as a risk consultant for a publicly traded firm in the Portland, Oregon area.

Steve is an avid snow skier and likes to spend off-time in the summers with his wakeboard boat on Oregon’s great reservoirs. He is a member of several custom car clubs and donates time helping military veterans.
